I'll tell you a secret: I only learned to avoid small talk with faculty at the academy. Most were not as amenable to jokes.

That helps, yes. So does his intelligence, and his compassion, and his patience. [ Oh no he's getting sentimental help!! ] He makes so much seem possible with his enthusiasm, and he continues to inspire me even now.

I love Jayce very dearly. [ Deep breath. ] I hope to spend the rest of our lives proving that to him.

[While this is not really surprising, this blatant confirmation would have made her heart leap in joy once instead of make it sink as it does now. It makes everything that's happened to Viktor, that potential, all the more miserable.

She's continuously grateful for the privacy of text, hiding the way her face twists as she thinks of every worst case scenario. It's a tragedy in the making.]

Knowing him, he wouldn't think you need to prove it at all. He probably thinks it's the other way around, actually.

That's one thing you might have to be content with failing in. I don't need to tell you, of all people, how stubborn he can be.

And yet, I won't stop trying. I owe him that much and more.

[Well, she won't argue that. Not from her point in the timeline.]

Does this mean you approve?

I want to believe you're the same Viktor I saw him falling in love with.

If so, then yes. I miss seeing the light in his eyes.

[ He sits heavily when he gets that message. It's — overwhelming. Jayce had been falling in love with him before all this? Enough for Caitlyn to notice?
